The Community Center at Visitation’s (CCV) annual Spring Fling on April 21st was an amazing success thanks to so many volunteers and neighbors here in our parish and Kensington community. This “welcoming of spring” celebration was highlighted by bright weather, music, good food, fun games and laughter which surrounded the corner of Kensington and Lehigh Avenues. Balloons and streamers blew in a breeze that carried the smell of awesome grilled food cooked by Fr. Tom and the Youth Group.
Children with painted faces won prizes at the carnival games outside and ate Rita’s water ice and fresh fruit. Inside the Center, several lucky community members won prizes playing some serious Bingo, and joined the children for the magician’s show, toured our city’s finest Fire Truck tour, or moved their hips in a quick Zumba session.
In between the many events of this fun-filled day, people shopped in the mini-flea market and grabbed something to eat from our delicious and multi-cultural menu of egg rolls, empanadas, tacos, rice and beans to name just a few items. At every hour, ears perked up for our raffle drawings to see if they had won one of the 9 prizes provided by our generous donors.
Over 50 volunteers and donors contributed to our Spring Fling in invaluable ways, providing the materials, prizes, creativity, and 200 hours of service that allowed for such a fun day. The community came together for this event and left with fond memories.
